Aubrey Wren e-mail to Chudwell 14/09/11

Chudwell

Hope all is okay with you, I think I've caught a cold from this place.

Thanks for helping out with this, I know you've probably got a million things you should be doing, like covering the local village fete or reporting on who stole someone's garden gnome or whatever it is you're subjected to. I really don't know how you stomach it.

If there's a story with the Burtons, I didn't see it. They're as perfect as Hargrove from what I could make out, but maybe they need another looking over with a fresh pair of eyes. Just make sure whoever you get to look into it doesn't go making a big story for themselves, this is still my story. If they do find anything however I'll give them a share of the reward.

The accident happened when he was 19, so that was 1999. I got through to Liz and she told me that the PC who lead the investigation still lives in the town. Worth checking in with him I guess. His name's Gordon Brent, he's retired now, but I'm sure you'll be able to get him to spill the beans.

Well, it's all action here... I hope you can read the sarcasm in that sentence. Doesn't always translate through the written language but believe you me that that sentence was meant to be as dripping wet with sarcasm as I have been with rain.

I got the taxi driver to take me to Mrs. Beal's last know address...  unfortunatley I'm a week late, she died in her sleep last tuesday.

A friendly old man saw me pull up outside and came to meet me. His name was Stivers, american by the sound of it, and we spoke in the comfort of his living room near the fire, of Mrs. Beal.

He'd been her live in partner the past five years and said she'd never spoke about her grandaughter, however... and this is where it gets interesting... a woman who fits the grandaughters description (or at least what she probably would look like now) was seen at the funeral on friday and he didn't know who she was. He reckons she's still staying in town somewhere, so that's what I'm doing, looking for this girl, if it is indeed her...

What are these disappearances that you're looking into?
Aubrey

P.S - I had no idea there was an Aubrey art gallery, what a coincidence?

Sorry to hear about the rain and your bad night, it's been windy but dry here in Great Dunmow.

I will indeed help you.  Apologies for not making that clearer.
I will look into Councillor Hargrove, see what I can dig up on him.  I do know he has a fiance, a blonde by the name of Rachel Burton, she's loaded.  They announced the engagement last month.  He seemed happy enough.

How long ago was this disappearance?

I'm kind of looking into disappearances myself at the moment, but my findings so far are inconclusive.

I may have to get in touch with some old friends to help out.

Did you know we have an Aubrey Art Gallery here in Great Dunmow? It's on the high street.

I will try and have something more for you the next time I write.

Newspaper Article 1 - Missing Girl

Hey,
I thought I'd send you the newspaper article I found about the girlfriend.
Local Girl Missing

Tabatha Copola, 18, was involved in a motorvehicle collision on Tuesday. Her boyfriend recalls her being in the car when they crashed into a tree, but when emergency services arrived she was no where to be seen.
"We think she may have amnesia brought on by head trauma" said Dr. Pattel when questioned on the matter. He went on to say "If you see Tabatha Copola please report it to the police." Her family have offered a substantial reward for any information on the whereabouts of their daughter.
She was never found you know.

Woke up after an awful nights sleep.

The rain is still coming down in droves with no sign of let up. Worse still there's no signal here, I'm having to use my laptop connected via dial up thanks to this raging storm! (how did we used to manage on this?)

Still, I'd recommend this B&B. My room was nice and the breakfast very good. If you ever come here go for a meal at "The Edge", they do nice fish.
I think they have used Port Isaac for television before, so you probably have seen it before.

Anyway, I'm just about to brave the weather and head out from the B&B to find Mrs Beale in hopes she can shed some light on her grandaughters disappearance and the PM Candidate's involvement if any.

Just wish the rain would let up for a moment!

I take it by your reply that you will indeed be helping me out, but I have to apologise straight off as I realise I got the name of the village wrong! I bet you thought I had the wrong Chudwell!

It is of course Great Dunmow our candidate is from, and unless I'm mistaken, that is roughly the same part of Essex you hail from?

Speak to you soon Chudwell.

Aubrey

p.s. I had sent you the article regarding the dissapearing girlfriend, however I sent it to your old e-mail! I must delete that address sometime. I've resent it to you.

Aubrey,

It is good to hear from you.  Forgive me, I had forgot you were arriving yesterday.
My mind has been slightly preoccupied.
What is Port Isaac like?  I've never actually been there in person, though I have seen the pictures on the web.  I've probably seen it on TV too without realising it.
I hope Nigel and Marion have made you feel welcome.

Good luck in your search today, I hope you find Mrs Beale.  Let me know your progress.  It's raining here at the moment.  How depressing.

Kindest regards
Chudwell.

Aubrey Wren's Journal 12/09/2011

Aubrey's Journal
12/09/2011

Well the birthday present (this journal) from Liz is coming in handy, I've got a doozy of a story and I don't trust computers (I'm old school) hopefully at some point I'll be able to use this as part of my novel.

Here's the low down. Harper (the boss) wanted a piece on an up and coming MP. He's young, charismatic and intelligent (the candidate not my boss) and no one has anything on him.

Well, I say no one. I might have found something hidden away.

It appears Hargrove (the candidate) was involved in a car accident when he was younger and his girlfriend of the time (who was in the car) vanished without a trace.

The story was buried it seems, so it's only right that I un-bury it.

It's a two man job, so my colleague (my old pal Chudwell) is helping me out (luckily he grew up in the same area as the candidate) I don't understand why he's stuck in a low level newspaper for a local town as that kid has talent, real talent.

Well when this is released I'll be taking him out of that job and into the lime light! I owe him that much anyway.

So I'm currently sitting in my room in Port Isaac, Cornwall. It seems that the parents of that poor missing girl are both dead, and her only living relative is her grandmother who lives near here. I'm in Port Isaac investigating this lead whilst my colleague goes to try and find some more info where he's at. Hopefully he'll turn up something useful.

It's pouring it down with rain here tonight, thank god I got decent accommodation. Notes on their dinner will follow forthwith.

Should probably get Liz a gift whilst I'm here.

Chudwell
I've just got into Port Isaac and it's tipping it down here. The rain is so bad I can hardly see infront of my face.
Luckily the taxi driver was able to get me to my lodgings from the trainstation relatively quickly and without driving us off a cliff.
I'm staying at Hathaway B&B in Port Isaac for a few days (billing my expenses to the business of course) and as soon as this rain lets up I think I'll go and find a meal and tomorrow I'll find that grandmother.
Look forward to hearing from you.
